Join Friends of Crestwood Library when they volunteer at the Grand Holiday Illumination. Hot chocolate will warm you as your spirits are lifted by the spectacular lights!

Yonkers on the Move
Come on out and join us for Yonkers on the Move, a weekly walk in spring, summer, and fall, starting at the Crestwood Branch. Each Tuesday, a leader selects a route through Crestwood streets or a nature walk through local parks. Enjoy some physical fitness and companionship in a lovely setting!

Second Edition!! College Check-In
The presentation on September 17th was so well received that a second session was requested! More questions will be answered by College Admissions Counselors Mary Walsh, Recruitment Manager, LeMoyne College, Syracuse, NY, and Erica R. Keough, Assistant Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Fordham Preparatory School. Get more of the scoop on virtual tours, the application process, scholarships and other helpful college application tips.
Event will be held in the Crestwood Library Main Reading Area and is intended for Teens, Adults, and Adults 55+.

Chess Tournament
In the Fall, the Crestwood branch will host our second Chess Tournament! To participate, one must pre-register at the Crestwood branch. Only the first 20 registrants will be able to play, so hurry up and register. There will be prizes awarded to the top competitors.
Make Music Day
Make Music Day is an international event and Friends of Crestwood Library are so pleased to be celebrating with an outdoor concert. We are welcoming the return of A Jazz Ensemble (who performed at our library on April 13th).

Annual Meeting 2024
The Annual Meeting of Friends of Crestwood Library will be held in person at our library on May 7th, 2024. The business portion of the meeting will be followed by “Crestwood Library Archival Documents” presented by Jacqueline Leone, Librarian Trainee.
Save the Date for a Free Concert
Young Musicians of Westchester will present a Jazz Combo in a free concert at our Crestwood Branch. The Aaron Copland School of Music — Queens College is a division of City University of New York located in Queens, NY. The Copland School’s Jazz Ensemble Program offers students hands on experience working under the tutelage of experienced jazz artists.
This performance by students in the Jazz Ensemble Program promises to be an exciting evening of music. Please join us for this special event!
Irish Music on Saint Patrick's Day!
Sarah Banks and Tom Sokol will offer a concert of Irish Music, starting at 2:00 PM in the Crestwood Library. Singer Beth Kaufman will also join them.
Wear your green and come to our library to enjoy live music!
Joe Rao Prepares Viewers for Eclipse of the Sun!
On April 8th, an eclipse of the sun is headed our way. To prepare for this event, Joe Rao (former Chief Meteorologist and Science Editor for News 12 in Westchester and the Hudson Valley) will give a one-hour talk on ZOOM. The upcoming solar eclipse is the largest visible over the Northeast U.S. in 40 years. According to Joe Rao, 92% of Yonkers will be in darkness.

YFD: SmokeHouse
Learn how to exit from an emergency smoke condition in your home, school, workplace or store.
Fire fighters will take groups into the SMOKEHOUSE trailer where participants will listen to a talk given by a fire fighter, watch a short educational film and then practice safely moving about in a smoke-filled room.
Registration is required for each participant. This program is not suitable for those with breathing issues. Not suitable for children under the age of 5, and children between the ages of 5 and 8 must be accompanied by an adult family member.

The Magic of Wool
Heidi Chisolm will guide us through a hands-on artisanal process starting from newly-shorn sheep fibers. We will transform those fibers into wool yarn. Participants will be able to turn the crank on a drum carder to comb out the wool, then twist it into a single strand of yarn using a drop spindle. The next step will be plying two single strands into homespun yarn on a spinning wheel. Finally, a small weaving project will allow us to create an artistic sample of fabric.
Registration required — limited to 10 adults.
Mary Calvi
Mary Calvi will discuss finding forgotten love letters between Teddy Roosevelt and his first wife, Alice Lee. Mary came across these treasures while doing research at Harvard’s Houghton Library for If a Poem Could Live and Breathe: A Novel of Teddy Roosevelt’s First Love. Please join us for a lively in-person presentation of Mary’s new book on Monday, March 20, at 7pm at the Crestwood Library. Copies of the book will be available for purchase (all major credit cards or cash accepted) and Mary will be happy to autograph all books.
Note: Longtime Crestwood resident Guy Campanile (producer at 60 Minutes) will introduce Mary.
